Cape Cod has a rich history of cultural and community activities. One special and charming tradition is the "Stroll". A stroll is a community event where people gather at a specific area of a village and take a walk together. Typically, this occurs in a commercial center where stores and eateries are plentiful. It is an opportunity to re-connect with humankind and enjoy a pleasant stroll with your fellow citizens - with no objective other than to connect on a personal level. Many Cape Cod towns and villages enhance the experience with musical acts and other attractions to increase the pleasure of an evening walking around a truly unique part of the world. Here in Harwich, we have our stroll every Wednesday night during the summer (and a special Christmas stroll the first Saturday in December!). Many other villages have similar events throughout the summer and holidays. Strolls welcome visitors and residents alike - all you need to do is show up - there is no admission fee! Find out more at our Chamber of Commerce website www.harwichcc.com or www.thestroll.com.

One of the things we love about Cape Cod is that during 3 seasons of the year there is always something blooming. These Sea Spray Roses border the street in front of the Inn. Their fragrance fills the air as you walk to the beach. They will bloom in waves for most of the summer. We've already seen the False Cherry and Lilacs bloom and fade and are beginning to see some early buds opening on our many Hydrangea bushes. The Cape is renowned for its beautiful Hydrangeas that thrive on our soil and ocean air - we have over 60 on our property of varying colors and styles. If you love Hydrangeas, come stay with us and enjoy the Annual Hydrangea Festival with runs from July 10th thru the 19th this year. Visit www.capecodhydrangeafest.com for more information and click below to book a room with us!

We just love the Cape – it holds a special place in our hearts, as it does for many others who choose to live or vacation here regularly. But what makes Cape Cod special is different for everyone. One common theme seems to be the relaxing environment. Before we bought the Inn and chose to live ‘on-Cape’ full time, we spent many years commuting here from our main home in Connecticut. Traffic would sometimes be a nuisance, and our home schedules were often hectic, but once we crossed the bridge and smelled the ocean, our demeanor always changed. Time slowed down, blood pressure dropped, and our whole outlook improved. We encourage you to come see for yourself - whether it is the beaches and watersports, the arts, the museums, the food, or the quaint small towns; we think you will find something you have missed in your hectic daily life – the simple enjoyment of slowing down and being connected to yourself and the life around you.

We are fortunate to have many documents from the Inn’s past, and we love the descriptions from advertisements in the 1950’s and 1960’s. The Inn is described as a place to go for “restful relaxation” and the Cape as a “paradise for the collector, historian, photographer, and artist. Here is American History in its original setting…” These quotes seem quaint today, but we like to think that the Cape still runs at a slower speed than the rest of the connected world – and that is a good thing!

This is our first blog post, a new chapter in The Tern Inn’s history that spans over 100 years. We plan to post regularly about happenings at the Inn and the aspects of Cape Cod that make it such a unique place to live and visit. We hope you enjoy these posts and come for a visit in the future.

Make the most of the season by following these simple guidelines

The new season is a great reason to make and keep resolutions. Whether it’s eating right or cleaning out the garage, here are some tips for making and keeping resolutions.

    Make a list

Lists are great ways to stay on track. Write down some big things you want to accomplish and some smaller things, too.

    Check the list regularly

Don’t forget to check in and see how you’re doing. Just because you don’t achieve the big goals right away doesn’t mean you’re not making progress.

    Reward yourself

When you succeed in achieving a goal, be it a big one or a small one, make sure to pat yourself on the back.

    Think positively

Positive thinking is a major factor in success. So instead of mulling over things that didn’t go quite right, remind yourself of things that did.
