What is it about Cape Cod?
Why we love it and why you should too

We just love the Cape – it holds a special place in our hearts, as it does for many others who choose to live or vacation here regularly. But what makes Cape Cod special is different for everyone. One common theme seems to be the relaxing environment. Before we bought the Inn and chose to live ‘on-Cape’ full time, we spent many years commuting here from our main home in Connecticut. Traffic would sometimes be a nuisance, and our home schedules were often hectic, but once we crossed the bridge and smelled the ocean, our demeanor always changed. Time slowed down, blood pressure dropped, and our whole outlook improved. We encourage you to come see for yourself - whether it is the beaches and watersports, the arts, the museums, the food, or the quaint small towns; we think you will find something you have missed in your hectic daily life – the simple enjoyment of slowing down and being connected to yourself and the life around you.
We are fortunate to have many documents from the Inn’s past, and we love the descriptions from advertisements in the 1950’s and 1960’s. The Inn is described as a place to go for “restful relaxation” and the Cape as a “paradise for the collector, historian, photographer, and artist. Here is American History in its original setting…” These quotes seem quaint today, but we like to think that the Cape still runs at a slower speed than the rest of the connected world – and that is a good thing!
This is our first blog post, a new chapter in The Tern Inn’s history that spans over 100 years. We plan to post regularly about happenings at the Inn and the aspects of Cape Cod that make it such a unique place to live and visit. We hope you enjoy these posts and come for a visit in the future.
